Representing Lutheran North as Princess of Florissant

Rebecca Bazan, a senior, has wanted to be royalty since age two, when she attended her first Florissant Valley of Flowers Parade. Now that she has been named Princess of Florissant, Rebecca enjoys her role not for her own benefit, but to impact the community around her.

“Although having the title ‘Princess of Florissant’ is a true honor, more than anything though I want to make a difference in my community,” Rebecca said. “Whether it’s working with children or the elderly, or helping out at events, I want to show that if you work towards your goals you can succeed!”

Representing the City of Florissant, Rebecca’s duties will find her at various Florissant activities from June 2016 through May 2017, when her successor will be crowned. She will speak, model, volunteer, and interact with people at Florissant auctions, parades, meetings, and dinners. Volunteering in the community is something she valued before getting this opportunity.

“It's always been important for me to be a good role model for the many young people in my city,” she said. “By being involved in the community, we show people around us that we are Christian students who love helping people, and love making the best of things, sometimes in the worst times.”

Rebecca is Lutheran North’s first Princess of Florissant. She believes this will help expose her school’s values to the community, and highlight the servant leadership qualities embodied by Lutheran North students for the past 50 years.

“As exciting as it was to be selected as Princess of Florissant from 20 candidates, it was even more exciting to celebrate my accomplishment when I realized that Lutheran North was celebrating 50 years! I hope this helps future Lutheran North students consider this role, so they realize that doing simple things and helping out around our community can make a difference.”

When Rebecca graduates in the spring, she’ll bring her experience as Princess of Florissant with her as she pursues her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Registered Nurse certification. Along with a college-prep Lutheran North education, this learning opportunity is preparing her for a lifetime of service to her community.

“I have many goals for the future but a main goal for me would be to continue helping people by working in the medical field,” Rebecca said. “I've been volunteering in the Emergency Department at a local hospital for many years. After I get my RN and BSN, I may eventually go back to school to become a doctor.”
