Lutheran South is seeking a Day Porter to join the Facilities Team. The Day Porter is responsible for building janitorial tasks, ensuring that the building looks professional, clean, presentable, and inviting at all times. The tasks include those assigned as well as any self-generated tasks that result from regular walkthroughs.
Positional Duties & Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities encompass the entire facility interior appearance tactical management and execution including:
➢ Performing morning touch up cleaning prior to student arrival
➢ Stocking paper products, soaps, etc., in restrooms and classrooms throughout the building
➢ Responding to spills and plumbing emergencies
➢ Setting up tables and chairs as needed for events
➢ Daily cafeteria cleaning and trash removal
➢ Daily kitchen floor cleaning and trash removal
➢ Managing the inventory of paper products and cleaning supplies
➢ Basic daily cleaning services not contracted (garage, weight room, etc.)
Secondary responsibilities that are normally assigned to others but become the responsibility of this position if/as the others are unavailable include:
➢ Pavilion building restroom maintenance (stocking supplies and cleanups as needed)
➢ Daily unlock and lockdown of exterior doors on school days
Qualifications & Competencies
❖ High School graduate minimum; trade school training desired, but not required
❖ Preferred 1-3 years of facility experience in a school or mid-size organization with a total annual facility operations budget of at least $100,000
❖ Be able to lift up to 50 lbs, maintain machines, equipment, and related tools of the trade to ensure proper performance and safety
❖ A lifestyle that is consistent with the Christian mission of the high school and that demonstrates Christian propriety in matters of conduct
❖ Maintain personal pride and ownership of the campus property and related areas, athletic fields, etc.
❖ Consistently demonstrate punctuality and effective use of time in daily work
❖ Ability to work courteously and effectively with others in both normal and pressure situations
❖ Practice proactivity
❖ Local travel as needed to perform primary position responsibilities – CDL with school bus endorsement desired, but not required
❖ Good driving record
❖ Available to occasionally work unusual or long hours, including holidays and Sundays, to support 7x24 building operations
❖ Aptitude to learn facility-related computer tools – especially online purchasing and time tracking systems
❖ Demonstrated technical ability and the associated initiative – especially with building and grounds systems
❖ Proven ability to work independently, plan daily work, and establish priorities to achieve unit’s required objectives
❖ Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
❖ Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel throughout the organization
❖ Must maintain the highest level of integrity, be customer-oriented and maintain a positive attitude
❖ Supports the team concept by maintaining a positive working relationship with team members
❖ Performs professionally, with excellence, and with a Christian heart of service
Compensation and Terms of Service
This full-time position is non-exempt (hourly and overtime qualifying). The workday will include specific hours that will encompass the majority of the school day. Benefits are included.
The staff member’s offer of employment shall be on an annual basis. It is assumed that, given a positive performance review related to the professional development program, employment will be ongoing.
