Position Description: School Principal
Mission Alignment
The Principal serves as the educational and spiritual leader of Lutheran North Middle and
High School (Grades 6-12). The primary purpose of this role is to fulfill the school’s mission,
integrating our Christian faith into all aspects of the school ministry and preparing learners
to fulfill their God-given potential through academic excellence, spiritual growth, and
service. This includes managing the daily tasks and processes of the school.
Accountability & Relationships
The Principal reports to the Head of School.
The Principal collaborates with the administrative team, faculty, staff, and families to foster
a collaborative and enthusiastic Christ-centered ministry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Spiritual Leadership
● Role Modeling: Model a life of discipleship and serve as a spiritual role model for
students, faculty, and the community.
● Climate & Culture: Provide leadership for the school’s spiritual climate, ensuring a
Christ-centered culture where faith, relationships, and learning flourish.
● Discipleship: Lead staff and students in spiritual development, including chapel
services, prayer, and integration of a Christian worldview into all curricula and
teaching.
2. Academic & Instructional Leadership
● Curriculum: Oversee curriculum development and school-wide initiatives to ensure
academic rigor and alignment with state and national standards.
● Supervision: Supervises faculty and staff through regular observation and
evaluation, providing feedback to help teachers improve.
● Data-Driven Growth: Utilize data to monitor student progress, inform instruction,
and guide intervention strategies.

● Professional Development: Consistently engage in professional development for
self-improvement as well as planning and implementing professional development
opportunities that meet the collective needs of the faculty/staff.
3. Student Life & School Culture
● Environment: Create and maintain a safe, orderly student-centered environment
that encourages students to take responsibility for their behavior, utilizing fair, firm,
and consistent discipline that incorporate restorative practices. Ensure an
up-to-date school safety/crisis plan is in place.
● Extra-Curriculars: Ensure all extra-curricular activities align with the school’s
mission.
● Community Relations: Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the
community, handling conflict resolution proactively and biblically.
4. Operational & Personnel Management
● Staffing: Recruit, interview, and recommend qualified candidates; orient and
mentor new staff to ensure alignment with Lutheran identity.
● Admissions and Enrollment: Oversee these operations, ensuring enrollment and
student retention align with the school’s mission and vision.
● Fiscal Oversight: Assist in the development and management of the annual school
budget, showing fiscal responsibility in authorized expenditures.
● Compliance & Accreditation: Maintain accurate records (attendance, personnel,
legal) and lead the school through the National Lutheran School Accreditation
(NLSA) process and annual reporting.
● Facilities: Working with the Head of School, oversee maintenance and safety of
school facilities and grounds.
Qualifications
● Spiritual: Active member of an LCMS congregation with a strong faith relationship.
● Education: Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or
Curriculum and Instruction required (or actively working toward one).
● Licensure: Valid state administrative certification/licensure or eligibility to transfer
such licensure preferred.
● Roster Status: Roster-eligible Commissioned Minister of the LCMS preferred (or
willing to complete Colloquy).
● Experience: Minimum 5 years of successful classroom teaching in combination with
school leadership experience, including working with a diverse student population.
