Dean of Students
The Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis is seeking to hire a Dean of Students at its Lutheran North Middle and High School campus. Lutheran North is a diverse educational community whose unity is in Jesus Christ. Our community is very strong and well supported. Our education is college preparatory, our expectations are high, and our community is a family.
About this position:
Summary of Duties and Areas of Responsibilities: The Dean of Students’ responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Builds positive rapport with students and staff
Always acts with unquestionable integrity and promotes similar behavior in others
Displays professionalism in verbal and nonverbal communication, both in word and action.
Promotes a positive school culture in all aspects of the school’s ministry
Establishes and maintains the highest standards of student behavior to provide an effective learning environment using the LN model of “repentance, forgiveness, and renewal.”
Handles discipline issues fairly and consistently, in alignment with the student handbook
Communicates with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators regarding behavioral issues
Diligently records and updates student records promptly regarding conduct and consequences
Oversees and monitors recordkeeping of student attendance
Oversees the school’s system of disciplinary and probationary contracts
Ensures attendance and discipline policies are appropriate, recommends updates at regular intervals
Serves on the Administrative Team and works collaboratively with its members
Stays abreast of best practices and works to ensure culturally appropriate methods regarding student behavior and learning
Strives for personal growth and professional development
Assists in supervising and mentoring members of the faculty, staff, and student body
Administers substitute teacher coverage and tracks annual activity
Maintains appropriate professional interaction with students, parents, administrators, co-workers, and other colleagues
Attends school functions, faculty meetings, in-service events, conferences, and workshops
Additional duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications:
Espouse and minister in accordance with the school’s philosophy of Christian education and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
Excited to work in a diverse, urban setting
Possess a positive attitude
Able to set clear expectations and maintain them consistently
Possess a current administrator’s certificate from the State of Missouri
Prefer a minimum of 5 years administrative experience
Ability and patience to work interactively with students
Organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to create and use various spreadsheets and applications
Ability to understand and help meet the individual needs of each student
