Several Lutheran South students celebrated National Signing day on Wednesday, February 7, when they signed their national Letters of Intent to pay collegiate sports.
Super 30 pick Cody Schrader signed with Truman State University. The 210-pound running back from Lutheran High School South led his team to its first state final four appearance in more than 30 years. Schrader’s high school career included more than 7,400 yards of total offense and 111 touchdowns. Defensively, he made 481 tackles and 14 sacks. He holds 17 school records and was named Small School Player of the Year by KSDK.
Linebacker KeShon Spraggins signed with McKendree University. The 240-pound Spraggins ended his high school career with 138 tackles and two interceptions. He scored nine offensive touchdowns. Both players were named to the St. Louis All-Metro and Missouri media’s All-State teams.
Wide receiver R. J. Benkelman signed with Ball State University. The 175-pound senior broke two school records this year with the most touchdowns andmost yards received in a single season. Benkelman was also on the All-State team.
Lutheran South celebrated success in its women sports, as well. Soccer goalkeeper Kasey Hartmann signed with Saint Louis University. After taking second in state, volleyball standouts Katie Brown and Bailey Becker signed with Elmhurst College and St. Louis Community College – Meramec. Golfer Samantha Snellen recently signed with Missouri Baptist University, and Riley Schelp committed to the University of Alabama track and field team earlier this fall.
