Tuition Collections Specialist

The Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis is seeking to hire a Tuition Collections Specialist for its Lutheran North Middle & High School Campus. This is a part-time position (10-15 hours/week) with flexible scheduling, allowing work from home and in the office, as mutually agreed upon.

Summary
The Tuition Collections Specialist is responsible for working directly with families regarding past-due tuition accounts and developing manageable payment solutions through phone, email, and in-person communication. This role requires tact, discretion, diplomacy, initiative, and independent judgment, along with strong administrative and organizational skills. The successful candidate will approach sensitive financial matters with professionalism, compassion, and Christian values.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Reach out to families, conducting outbound phone calls and sending written follow-ups to those with delinquent tuition balances.
  2. Payment Plan Management: Work collaboratively with parents to establish structured, approved payment arrangements that align with school policy.
  3. System Documentation: Maintain precise, confidential record-keeping of all family contacts, payment commitments, and account updates in the Blackbaud student billing system.
  4. Progress Tracking: Provide weekly updates on total collections, active payment plans, and lingering balance trends to leadership.
  5. Collaborative Escalation: Identify high-risk accounts requiring administrative review and route them appropriately to business operations leadership.

Qualifications:
  1. Experience: Background in accounts receivable, financial customer service, and/or outbound phone communications.
  2. Relational Tact: Strong interpersonal communication skills to conduct delicate financial conversations with empathy, firmness, and discretion.
  3. Analytical & Technical Skills: High attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and proficiency with billing databases and spreadsheets.
  4. Mission Commitment: Alignment with the ministry, culture, and educational values of Lutheran North Middle & High School.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
